2573 – Theft in United States Virgin Islands (US) – St. Thomas – Red Hook anchorage

Incident Details: Owners returned to their yacht and discovered that during the period of Jan 9 through Jan 19, 2021, a thief had boarded their yacht and stolen the chartplotter from the cockpit helm. The chart plotter was mounted to the fiberglass of the helm. The thief removed the trim and eight securing screws, unplugged and removed the unit. No damage was done to remove the unit. No other equipment was taken. || A police report was made, and forensics collected.

2556 – Theft in Saint Martin (France) – Marigot Bay

Incident Details: Between 0200 and 0400 hours while the crew slept on board a swimmer boarded their catamaran in Marigot Bay and broke in thru the locked door. They discovered the theft and wet footprints at about 0700 hours. Stolen items included personal electronics, a laptop, binoculars, a search light, sunglasses and a wallet with cash and credit cards (one cc was used at 0400 hours), other items and a backpack. ||A report was made to the police, who visited the boat for photos and forensics. The police indicated that this was the 4th such incident recently, sadly CSSN has NOT received reports about these earlier incidents. Incident Details: A charter company located in the marina complex discovered that 4 of its stored ashore dinghies (no engines) had been stolen. Rodney Bay Marina has extensive video surveillance of their property and the waterways and is assisting the police with their investigation.

Incident Details: The outboard engine was stolen from the dinghy of a yacht that stranded with mainsail up and engine on on the north shore of Cabo Tres Puntas, Guatemala. The singlehanded owner is missing and presumed to have gone overboard offshore. The engineless dinghy was recovered adrift a few days later in Belize. Incident Details: Overnight, an engineless 8ft. Caribe dinghy was stolen from the deck of a yacht in the bay. The dinghy was on the fore deck and chain locked to a cleat on the mast. The caretaker discovered that the thief had come prepared with tools and had removed the cleat.
