3273 – Theft in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines – Union – Clifton Harbor

Incident Details: A charter yacht spent the night in Clifton Harbor. At 0530 they found their in-the-water and not locked dinghy was "missing". A search of the shoreline with binoculars at sunrise did not locate it. Shortly thereafter a local arrived at their yacht and told them someone had "found" a dinghy and took them to shore where another man claimed to have "found" the dinghy at Frigate Island (in the dark). A $20US finders fee was offered. The man demanded $500US and refused to return the dinghy until it was paid. The crew contacted their charter company who suggested they pay the fee, and depart immediately. They waited for the bank to open, paid the $500US and the dinghy was surrendered. The police were contacted but did not arrive. They departed.

Incident Details: Overnight outside the reef at White Bay, while owner and guests slept on board their in-the-water and not locked AB dinghy, 9.9HP Tohatsu outboard and fuel tank were stolen. Lines securing the dinghy to the yacht were removed. A report was made to the police and Coast Guard.||UPDATE: Serial number details added||Hull ID: XMO08063F920|Tohatsu Serial #002871AK Model MFS9.8BS||UPDATE : The dingy was recovered after 5 days, found beached in White Bay. It was intact , minus 1/2 tank of fuel and owner's flip flops.

Incident Details: An unlocked yacht on a West End mooring was boarded during daylight (1200-1700HRS) while the owner was away and 2 fishing rods were stolen. Nothing else was taken, other yachts were moored nearby. No police report was made.

Incident Details: Cruisers walked to a remote NE beach on Mayreau. They observed a thief come from the bushes and steal their bag containing a phone, cash and credit card. They gave chase but were not successful. They did find a knife the thief had dropped. ||A report was made to the police and Coast Guard, who seem to be very familiar with the individual who was identified. He confessed, surrendered the phone (not the cash or credit card) and they took him into custody and transported him to Union Island. He has other similar charges outstanding and was expected to be released pending trail.

A police report was made.||UPDATE 4/9/2024 Airtag tracker was activated and then shared with police who investigated, dinghy recovered, intact.
