2726 – Theft in Martinique (France) – Le Precheur

Incident Details: Owners were asleep onboard their yacht anchored in Le Precheur, Martinique, when they were awakened by noise. They discovered 2 men on a kayak attempting to steal their fishing gear from the deck, and began shouting at the thieves. The thieves dropped one of the rods, but managed to depart with the other. A police report was made.

2727 – Theft in United States Virgin Islands (US) – St. Thomas – Charlotte Amalie

Incident Details: Owners locked their dinghy at the waterfront dock by the Coast Guard Station in downtown Charlotte Amalie at 1330 HRS. When they returned to this heavily trafficked area an hour later the dinghy had been rifled, and life jackets which were stored in the locker of the bench seat we’re on the dinghy floor and the bench seat locker was unlatched. The enclosed fuel tank locker was also unlatched. The fire extinguisher, other dinghy items as well as some personal items were taken. Two anchors, the battery, and the fuel tank were untouched.||A police report was made, the police categorized the theft as larceny and indicated no investigation would be done due to a lack of locked compartments.

Incident Details: Owners were awakened at 0400 HRS when well prepared thieves cut the chain on their locked, in-the-water dinghy. They were able to get assistance the next morning and a reward was offered. The dinghy was found slashed beyond repair, the reward offer proved successful and the outboard was ransomed back to the owners.

Incident Details: The charter catamaran La Mouette, a Lagoon 38 with a blue stackpack was stolen, and observed at about 6PM on Sunday after it left its mooring and headed towards the east coast of St Vincent under power. A report was made to to SVG Coast guard.

Incident Details: While owners and crew slept onboard a thief entered the yacht's salon and stole the smartphone that was being used as an anchor alarm. The crew was awakened when the anchor alarm activated but the delay allowed the thief to escape. No other items were taken. A police report was made.||CSSN NOTE: Many (25) similar events have occurred in this location since 2015, the last reported to CSSN was in 2019. Consider taking appropriate precautions if planning to anchor overnight in Canouan.

Incident Details: A yacht anchored off Bruno's had its in-the-water and not locked dinghy/8HP engine stolen overnight. The owners discovered a cut line the next morning. The theft was reported on the VHF net, it is not known if a police report was made. ||During the VHF net, other thefts were reported, of small not lockable items. During the weekend of Oct 23-24 a dinghy fuel line and racor filter were stolen from a locked dinghy at Abel's boatyard, and reported to management there. During the week of October 18, another dinghy (location not known) had its propeller stolen from the tilted engine. 2690 – Theft in Martinique (France) – L’autre bord

Stolen Items: Outboard engine, Yamaha 2T 5cv with fuel tank

Source Type: 1st Hand Report

Incident Details: Owners chain locked their 5HP Yamaha dinghy outboard and fuel tank to the chain plate of a boat stranded on the beach at L'autre Bord anchorage, Martinique. Thieves broke the chain plate and stole the outboard and fuel tank between 1900-2000HRS. ||Nearby yachts were notified, as well as the surrounding neighborhood. A police report was made the next day at La Trinité Police Station. The managers of the nearby maritime school were also informed. Two (2) hours later the outboard and fuel tank reappeared on the beach, next to the place where they had been stolen.
