Incident Details A yacht owner heard some suspicious noise overnight and awoke to investigate and found the heavy lock /cable securing their outboard to the in-the-water dinghy had been defeated, and the transom clamps loosened. Apparently the well prepared thieves abandoned their attempt and later found another victim, see report 3635.

Incident Details A catamaran anchored overnight in the Chagres river and was boarded at about 0300HRS. The yacht's security video captured the masked and gloved thief, armed with a knife as he rummaged the cockpit area. Nothing was taken, but when the dinghy davit lines were cut the loud noise scared the thief off. The dinghy was chain locked to the yacht.

Incident Details A catamaran with 3 persons onboard departed Isla San Andres, Colombia for the Rio Dulce, Guatemala. At 1400HRS and position 15-25.6N 081-11.8W, approximately 125nmile off The Honduran coast and about 25nmiles south of the Thunder Knoll fishing shoals the crew observed 4 fishing boats approaching rapidly. The yacht altered course, putting on all sail/speed. The crew was monitoring VHF and there were no communications. ||The crew had discussed their plan before departure and gathered and then displayed multiple flare guns, a paint ball type weapon, a spear gun and a large fishing gaff. Three of the pursuing vessels were smaller, unable to keep up and fell away, coming no closer than about a ½ mile. The largest (4th) panga had 2 men wearing orange life jackets standing prominently near the bow and continued to pursue the yacht and approached to 200-300FT before they were able to see the crew’s very visible and ready preparation before they chose to end the pursuit. ||The yacht continued their passage without further incident and arrived safely in Guatemala. A report was made to the Honduran Navy by phone.

Incident Details A panga and motor (white Caribepro blue Bimini, 40HP Yamaha) was stolen from a dock in Old Bank Bastimentos, the locking chain was cut. There is a wedge shaped lime green stripe under the Enduro decal on engine, and hand hold on rear is lime green as well. A report was made to the police and Coast Guard.

Incident Details A yacht owner was asked by the marina to leave his boat at the dock while he traveled inland for a few days. He did so, and also provided them with keys they requested. On his return the keys were returned, and things seemed normal. After a few days he noticed that some cash, 5 liters of aged rum and half the cigars had been stolen. He reported it to the marina/port captain and they were unconcerned.

Incident Details While the crew were exploring the river by dinghy their yacht was boarded by thieves. Their companionway was well locked but the thieves found an unsecured hatch and gained access to the interior. They searched thoroughly and many items were stolen from the deck/cockpit/interior including dive tanks, snorkeling gear, wet suits, fishing gear, a laptop, 2 tablets, 4 power banks, 3 sets of headphones, 4 portable speakers, an electric induction stove, swimwear, beer, milk, 3 wallets. ||A report was made to the police and Coast Guard.

Incident Details UPDATED REPORT : Victims have made contact and filed a firsthand report. ||Cruisers tied their dinghy to the Dutch Customs dock by the bridge at 1100HRS and went inside to complete formalities. Almost immediately the dinghy was stolen. Video surveillance captured the lurking thief and his rapid departure to the lagoon. ||The victims discovered the theft at 1400HRS when they returned to the dinghy dock after doing some errands .They immediately returned to the Customs office. Officials there contacted an inspector from the governmental Ministry of Tourism, Economic Affairs, Traffic and Telecommunications, the police and the Coast Guard on their behalf. The Ministry inspector arrived 2 hours later, the police 3 hours later and took reports. ||The victims made a report the next morning on the VHF net. Officials shared video surveillance / video footage with them. No follow-up from police or other officials has been made 4 days later. ||Dinghy : Highfield 310 classic.
