2919 – Vandalism in Martinique (France) – St. Anne

Incident Details: Utilizing their guidebook information, owners locked their dinghy to the Caritan, St. Anne dinghy dock at 0830HRS. When they returned from the nearby laundry at 0950HRS they found the dinghy had been vandalized. The bowline had been untied, (lock remained in place) the throttle handle had been broken off and the dinghy had been filled with garbage including metal grates, conch shells, fenders and antifreeze bottles.||CSSN NOTE: This is the 4th report of vandalism at this dock in 2022, and thefts of dinghies in the nearby anchorage add another 5 incidents, making this anchorage/dinghy dock the most active for the region in 2022.|Understand the details from the Zoom -Tap, Know & Go map.

2921 – Burglary in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines – St. Vincent – Blue Lagoon

Incident Details: Owners locked their yacht moored in Blue Lagoon. They left the cockpit brightly lit before going ashore for the evening. Between 1830-2145HRs, burglars with tools arrived and broke into the yacht through the locked companionway. The burglars ransacked the interior and stole cash, credit cards, an iPad and rum. ||The Coast Guard was contacted and they arrived promptly. A police report was made the next day.

Incident Details: A catamaran anchored close-in off Princess Margaret beach and the crew went into town for some quick supplies from 16:00-19:30HRS. When they returned to the yacht they found some items strewn on the deck floor. An unlocked external locker had been opened and rifled through. A bright red plastic fishing tackle box was stolen. 5 of 8 swim fin socks were taken from the drying line. The main cabin remained locked and there was no sign of any other attempted or forced entry. No police report was made.

Incident Details: A 47' catamaran with two (2) persons on board departed Shelter Bay marina, Panama for Punta Gorda, Belize. Moving at about 8 knots, at 2245HRS they detected a boat two (2) nm in their forward path on radar. Their position was 16° 08.560 N, 082° 05.140 W, approx. 95 nautical miles off the coast of Honduras.||The captain determined there were 2 fishing boats, one heading directly (bow to bow) at the catamaran. Course was altered, and the enclosed fishing boat (est. 12m) also altered course and continued its direct approach. Course was again altered and 2nd engine added and the yacht went dark. A second similar fishing boat was noted, also heading for the yacht. The first fishing boat had closed to within 60 feet on the port beam. With the addition of the second engine and a favorable wind angle the catamaran was moving at 12 knots, and the fishing boats were unable to keep pace but followed on the altered course for an additional 30 minutes. There were no radio communications. ||The catamaran continued without further incident to Belize, and made an informal report to authorities on arrival.

Incident Details: Overnight thieves attempted to steal one dinghy/outboard, but it was chain locked to a tree on the beach. They were able to steal a second dinghy/3HP outboard, also on the beach, that was not locked. The thieves apparently abandoned the stolen dinghy when they were unable to start it because of a loose wire. It was found undamaged and adrift the next day by a cruiser in Prickly Bay, and returned. A police report was made.

Incident Details: A sailing school charter yacht anchored overnight in Charleston Bay, Canouan. In the morning the students discovered a fuel tank for the outboard motor, and a spare anchor were stolen from one of the lazarettes where they had been stowed overnight. ||The theft occurred in the late evening between midnight and 5am the next morning.
