2486 – Burglary in Grenada – Carriacou – Tyrrel Bay

Incident Details: An unoccupied yacht on a mooring was burglarized between 16-24 April. The minder discovered the break-in, thieves cut several locks on lazarettes and the companionway. Tools were used to remove 2 winches in the cockpit, also stolen were 15HP Yamaha, handheld VHF, dive gear, safety gear, a new uninstalled lithium battery still in its box, other items. The minder made a police report.

2466 – Burglary in Dominican Republic – Luperon

Incident Details: A yacht on a mooring in the bay was burglarized between 6-10PM while the crew was ashore. The thief broke into the boat via the companionway door. Cash and jewelry were stolen. Reports were made to all authorities – The Navy/commandante, the police and the tourist police. No forensics were conducted.||CSSN NOTE: This is the 6th report of boarding/break-in from Luperon bay in 2020. Cruisers and the Navy have begun nighttime patrols.

Incident Details: A thief broke the companionway hasp to gain entry to a locked yacht in the bay between 7-9PM. An alarm was triggered and this apparently startled the thief and scared them away. Nothing was taken. A report was made to the (tourist) police.

Incident Details: Overnight an unoccupied but locked yacht in Saigon Bay was burglarized. The thief broke in through a hatch and stole kite boards. An unsuccessful attempt was also made on a second unoccupied yacht in this bay. Incident Details: While ashore for dinner between 8-9:30PM a yacht was burgled, there was significant damage to the entry and severe ransacking of the interior. Thieves found and stole a laptop and iPhone, damaged textiles and other electronics (iPad and Google phone).||A police report was made, the police investigators indicated that similar events have occurred in this anchorage recently. The owner also indicated that a dinghy oar and fuel had been stolen at the dinghy dock.

Incident Details: A yacht was burgled between June 15-August 20, 2019 while stored on the hard at Ottley Hall. The thieves cut locks and ransacked/searched the boat. They stole exterior and stored solar panels, tools, VHF radio, a computer and iPad, foul weather gear, Traktor Kontrol ( disc jockey equipment)and other misc. items. They replaced the companionway door to conceal the theft.|| The theft was discovered when the owner had a friend send exterior photos of the boat, and noticing an open hatch and missing deck solar panel asked the yard to investigate. The yard admitted other boats had been similarly affected. A new management team was in place in November when the owner returned to the yacht.

Incident Details: Owners had berthed at Marina Pescaderia in Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico. After being away from the boat for 4 days, they returned to find the boat had been burglarized. The lock on the companionway had been compromised, and was found with some sort of lock pick left stuck inside. The interior was completely ransacked and owners have not yet determined what was stolen, but few valuables had been left in the boat. A police report was filed and the marina management notified. Unfortunately the security cameras on premises were not operational. A police investigation is expected next week.

Incident Details: Problems with break-ins continue in Grenada. Eight additional (8) yachts were discovered to have been burgled in the Hog Island area. None of these boats had persons living on board, but some of the boats had minders/guardianage services. It is not possible to define what was taken at this time, but owners are being notified. Many of the recent yachts sustained significant damage as well as theft. Police have taken forensics, and cruisers are in the process of reestablishing nightly patrols.
