Incident Details: A yacht anchored off Bruno's had its in-the-water and not locked dinghy/8HP engine stolen overnight. The owners discovered a cut line the next morning. The theft was reported on the VHF net, it is not known if a police report was made. ||During the VHF net, other thefts were reported, of small not lockable items. During the weekend of Oct 23-24 a dinghy fuel line and racor filter were stolen from a locked dinghy at Abel's boatyard, and reported to management there. During the week of October 18, another dinghy (location not known) had its propeller stolen from the tilted engine. Incident Details: A 38' catamaran traveling from Utila, Bay Islands, bound for Shelter Bay Marina, Panama, was approached on the port stern by 3 launchas at 0930HRS, at position 15â° 41.020`N and 082â° 40.975' W, approximately 50 miles off the coast of Honduras. The captain was sleeping in the cockpit, a crew member stepped into the cockpit, saw the launchas approaching approximately 50 yards off and alerted all hands, who immediately executed their previously agreed plan. ||The three crew presented themselves on deck with the intent to show menace, displaying what appeared to be a rifle, and a barking dog. No weapons were evident in the lead launcha and it fell back, continuing to match the yachts speed on the starboard side for a few minutes, then it turned and left on a beam run, followed by the other two launchas. The 3 launchas carried a total of 11-13 men. ||The crew continued their passage to Panama without further incident and planned to make official reports to officials there with the aid of marina personnel, as well as to their consulate.||Take the time to Know Before You Go! Incident Details: A catamaran at Royal Marine, Piscadera, Curacao was burgled. The tender and outboard were both raised and well locked to the yacht. The sliding door lock was broken and the interior fully ransacked. The dinghy/outboard and all valuable/easily portable items (mountain bike, drone, dive gear, camera equipment, tools, etc.) were also stolen. The owner reported the incident to the Royal Marine staff onsite who seemed aware of a similar problem occurring to another boat a few nights earlier. 2690 – Theft in Martinique (France) – L’autre bord

Incident Details: Owners chain locked their 5HP Yamaha dinghy outboard and fuel tank to the chain plate of a boat stranded on the beach at L'autre Bord anchorage, Martinique. Thieves broke the chain plate and stole the outboard and fuel tank between 1900-2000HRS. ||Nearby yachts were notified, as well as the surrounding neighborhood. A police report was made the next day at La Trinité Police Station. The managers of the nearby maritime school were also informed. Two (2) hours later the outboard and fuel tank reappeared on the beach, next to the place where they had been stolen.

Incident Details: Overnight, thieves boarded an unoccupied yacht on a mooring near the marina dock. They used a hacksaw/blade to cleanly cut the padlock that locked the transom clamps to each other while the 15HP Yamaha was mounted on the stern pulpit. The lock remains were left in the cockpit, where a similar lock secured the cabin companionway. The fuel tank remained in the cockpit, and was not taken. A report was made to the police, port captain, marina and announced on the VHF net.

Incident Details: A single handed yacht on passage from Curacao to Brazil having passed well north of Margarita Island, Venezuela, was boarded at 0830HRS by Spanish speaking pirates 15 miles offshore the Paria Peninsula at position 10-58.744N 062-38.279W along the north eastern coast of Venezuela.||Initially two (2) open boats with multiple large, new outboards and twenty (20) men took control. The pirates were all armed with automatic weapons and handguns. They beat the captain and forced his yacht close to shore in this remote and sparsely populated area. There was a well established house/camp and other armed men visible ashore. Two (2) additional boats (total 4) and men (total 40) then spent four (4) hours threatening the captain with their weapons and ransacking/searching the yacht while he was forced to circle close to shore. The pirates repeatedly demanded cash, which was surrendered. They also took all alcohol/beverages and food, as well as clothing, shoes and sunglasses. The pirates took the yacht’s liferaft, but had no interest in the dinghy or outboard, laptop, the yacht’s electronics, the captain’s credit cards or his cell phone. The pirates did take the phone charger. They were fairly well organized and under the control of “the boss” who communicated with his men and the captain by VHF. ||Eventually the pirates were satisfied they had taken all they wanted, and the captain asked the pirate boss for some small food and diesel so he could depart and continue his voyage. It was provided with a proviso to go and never look back. The yacht proceeded and made safe harbor in Chaguaramas, Trinidad. Assistance was provided by a cruiser who noticed the distressed state of the captain. ||The captain was visited by the Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard who took a full report, he also talked with his consular officials.
