2723 – Theft in Honduras – Roatan – Calabash Bight

Incident Details: Owners were awakened at 0400 HRS when well prepared thieves cut the chain on their locked, in-the-water dinghy. They were able to get assistance the next morning and a reward was offered. The dinghy was found slashed beyond repair, the reward offer proved successful and the outboard was ransomed back to the owners.

2721 – Burglary in Martinique (France) – St. Pierre

Stolen Items: electronics – VHF and remote autopilot controller, a variety of safety gear including automatic lifejackets, horseshoe buoy, IOR pole, first aid kit, diving gear including BCD and regulator, a variety of tools and also the stored mainsail and other rigging gear.

Incident Details: A yacht moored and minded in St. Pierre was burgled, the owner discovered the break-in on his return. The thief broke the locking mechanism and entered though a deck hatch and carefully concealed the damage on departure. Much was stolen, and the the thief used some of the yachts travel bags to carry away some of the gear. Stolen were electronics, a mainsail, rigging pieces, dive gear, many tools and a variety of safety gear. |A police report is planned.

Incident Details: The charter catamaran La Mouette, a Lagoon 38 with a blue stackpack was stolen, and observed at about 6PM on Sunday after it left its mooring and headed towards the east coast of St Vincent under power. A report was made to to SVG Coast guard.

2716 – Theft in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines – Canouan – Charlestown Bay (South House)

Incident Details: While owners and crew slept onboard a thief entered the yacht's salon and stole the smartphone that was being used as an anchor alarm. The crew was awakened when the anchor alarm activated but the delay allowed the thief to escape. No other items were taken. A police report was made.||CSSN NOTE: Many (25) similar events have occurred in this location since 2015, the last reported to CSSN was in 2019. Consider taking appropriate precautions if planning to anchor overnight in Canouan.

Incident Details: A catamaran with 3 persons onboard departed Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras, for Isla San Andreas, Colombia. At 0550 hours at position 14-45.8N 082-43.6W, approximately 35 miles off the Nicaraguan coast approaching the Edinburgh channel, they were approached by an open boat with 5 men onboard who began shouting for them to stop, coming as close as 75 meters, no weapons were displayed. The crew presented a show of force and the boat slowed and tracked the yacht but then departed as a squall reduced visibility. Map marker 2704||At approximately 0800 at position 14-45.8N 082-43.6W the same skiff with 5 men returned at high speed with the bimini top removed and 2 of the men standing on the bow. They came within 25 meters of the yacht in rough seas holding a dead lobster. The crew presented a stronger show of force and aggressively shouted to get away while throttling up to 11 knots and making evasive maneuvers. After about 20 minutes the boat gave up and departed. Map marker 2711||At 0945 hours, now 50 nautical miles offshore, (N14-31.4N 082-26.3W) two different skiffs containing 11 men approached at high speed from port with one moving to approach from the stern. The yacht resumed evasive maneuvers and again presented a show of force. The 2 skiffs regrouped about 100 meters behind and tracked for 30 minutes before disappearing. Map marker 2712||The yacht continued to San Andres without further incident. A report was made to the Port Captain and the Colombian Coast Guard. A report to the home country consulate was planned.

Incident Details: At approximately 0800 at position 14-45.8N 082-43.6W the same skiff with 5 men returned at high speed with the bimini top removed and 2 of the men standing on the bow. They came within 25 meters of the yacht in rough seas holding a dead lobster. The crew presented a stronger show of force and aggressively shouted to get away while throttling up to 11 knots and making evasive maneuvers. After about 20 minutes the boat gave up and departed.
