3140 – Theft in Grenada – Grenada – Grand Anse

Incident Details: A dinghy locked with steel cable to the Grande Anse dock was stolen while the owners were having dinner nearby. When the owners returned witnesses provided information about the direction the thieves who had cut the cable had gone. The police were called, but were not helpful, the Coast Guard did not answer a VHF 16 call. The owner and a friend went toward the southern end of the beach where they recovered the dinghy, with it's well locked engine, but minus the fuel tank which had been locked with the same cable cut by the thieves. There was no damage to the dinghy/outboard.

Incident Details: An in-the-water and not locked dinghy was stolen from a yacht in Tyrrel Bay, Carriacou, between 1900-2100HRS. The 2.4 meter AB dinghy had registration "Smile tl 651938" on the starboard pontoon and a 4S 6HP engine. A police report was made.

Incident Details: Owners tied their dinghy to the dinghy dock in Tyrrell Bay and went to dinner ashore. When they returned the dinghy was gone. The next day an intermediary arranged for the return of the dinghy he claimed had been "found" by a fisherman offshore and collected a $800 "fee". No police report was made.||CSSN NOTE: recently in a separate case the Grenada CG required a sworn statement from someone who was claiming to have “found” a dinghy/outboard for which a reward had been offered. The “finder” failed to make the required statement, no reward was paid and the dinghy was returned to the owner.

Incident Details: A sailing catamaran moored overnight on one of the installed moorings near shore and the fuel dock in main harbour of Utila. A trolling rod and reel were left unsecured in a rod holder mounted on the stern and were missing in the morning. It wasn’t noticed until shortly after departure, so it was not reported to local authorities.
