3795 – Attempted Theft in Bonaire – Kralendijk moorings

Incident Details: Catamaran owners awoke to find their swim ladder had been pulled down and they had been boarded overnight. They learned that another boat on a nearby mooring was also boarded (see 3796). The yacht was locked and nothing had been taken.

CSSN UPDATE: A third yacht experienced similar events the next night. (see 3797) A full police report will be made by all 3 victims, and shared with the Port Captain and the marina.

CSSN UPDATE: The 3 victim boats attempted to make a police report but were rebuffed by officials, who seemed unaware of the boardings/events of the previous night. When asked for specific advice, the Chief of Police suggested calling 911, who should summon the correct response units, asking the boarders to leave (3x) and making a video of the activity. In the ABC’s calling 913 will connect with the Dutch Coast Guard.

Incident Details: Owners of a catamaran on a town mooring were awoken by noise and found 2 men had boarded their locked yacht. When discovered, both men jumped into the water and swam toward shore. A second yacht was also boarded, see 3795.

3794 – Theft in Saint Martin (France) – Orient Bay

Stolen Items: Dinghy (10 ft Achilles dinghy – gray – with red towing bridle. Serial # ACH00147E222), Outboard Motor (Black Tohatsu 15 HP, serial # 027855BE, locked to dinghy)

Source Type: 1st Hand Report

Incident Details: A dinghy came loose while being towed between St. Martin and St. Barth and washed ashore on Le Gallon beach, just south of Orient Bay, St. Martin. The Coast Guard alerted the owners with the coordinates of the dinghy, but it was stolen from the beach before it could be recovered. A report was made to the police and the Coast Guard.

Incident Details: Overnight a small fishing boat berthed at Royal Marine was stolen, the engine and fuel tank removed, and then sunk nearby where the owner found it. The engine had been through bolted to the transom and welded. A second lock thru the transom clamps was also defeated. A report was made to the marina, police and to the port captain.

Incident Details: Overnight, while the owner slept onboard in the South anchorage, the security cable on the in-the-water and locked to the yacht dinghy/Tohatsu 9.8 4 stroke outboard was cut and stolen. The engineless dinghy was found the next day. Reports were made to the police, port captain, marina and on the VHF net.
