2653 – Burglary in Panama – Linton Bay

Incident Details: A yacht on a private mooring off the marina was burgled between July 3-5, when the minder was absent from an adjacent mooring for a few days. The thief came prepared with tools and made no attempt to conceal the damage done breaking into the well locked yacht. The stolen items include a 15HP Yamaha outboard, a generator, binoculars, electronics (personal and chart plotter), a drone, tools and other items. Preliminary reports were made to the Linton Bay Marina, coast guard and police (Aeronaval). The owner will file formal reports on his return to Panama on July 12.

2641 – Attempted Theft in Panama – Bocas del Toro – Red Frog

Incident Details: A catamaran anchored off Red Frog marina was boarded at 0400 HRS by a lone male while the owners slept onboard. They were awakened when the person was trying to open the closed hatch right above their heads in the master cabin. They began yelling and chased the unwanted person off the yacht. He boarded a wooden canoe and paddled off towards shore. ||They noticed his footprints in the morning dew. He had apparently tried other hatches, which were all locked. Nothing appeared to be missing from the deck. A report was made on the local VHF net.

Incident Details: Owners left their yacht in a slip at Linton Bay Marina while they went to Panama City for a few days. When they returned they found that their full Tropigas propane tank and a coil of new line had been stolen from the side deck. A report was made to the marina.

Incident Details: Overnight while owners slept onboard, their in-the-water and not locked dinghy was stolen from their yacht anchored near Carenaro. The dinghy was found by others the next day adrift and engineless, and returned to the owners. It is not known if a police report was made.

Incident Details: Overnight thieves stole a panga from the area near El Caribeo/Cristobol . It was recovered nearby the next day, minus the outboard. The 40HP Yamaha was well locked to the panga, a police report was made.

Incident Details: An in-the water cable locked and alongside dinghy was stolen overnight, apparently by a swimmer with a hacksaw blade or cutting tool while the owner slept in the cockpit .||The owner found the dinghy minus outboard (locked to the dinghy) and fuel tank and snorkel gear the next morning on a nearby beach/mangroves. Reported to the Coast Guard ,police ,marina and on the local VHF net. A reward has been offered. ||CSSN NOTE : A second yacht in this bay had an unsuccessful attempted theft of an in -the-water locked dinghy/outboard this same night.
