2919 – Vandalism in Martinique (France) – St. Anne

Incident Details: Utilizing their guidebook information, owners locked their dinghy to the Caritan, St. Anne dinghy dock at 0830HRS. When they returned from the nearby laundry at 0950HRS they found the dinghy had been vandalized. The bowline had been untied, (lock remained in place) the throttle handle had been broken off and the dinghy had been filled with garbage including metal grates, conch shells, fenders and antifreeze bottles.||CSSN NOTE: This is the 4th report of vandalism at this dock in 2022, and thefts of dinghies in the nearby anchorage add another 5 incidents, making this anchorage/dinghy dock the most active for the region in 2022.|Understand the details from the Zoom -Tap, Know & Go map.

Incident Details: A dinghy was locked to the pontoon in Saint Anne at about 1030HRS. When the crew came back, a little before noon, the dinghy/outboard had been stolen. The stainless steel cable and padlock were lying cut, underwater. A police report was made.

Incident Details: A cruiser cable locked their dinghy to the Leader price dock at 1400HRS, and found it had been stolen when they returned 30 minutes later. The Coast Guard (CrossAg), Marine police and the marina were notified. Officials suggested a police report be made, and did not assist in a search. The victim and friends searched ashore in the area between Mango Bay and the fisherman's harbor and found the stolen dinghy/outboard there, about 500 meters from the dock.

Incident Details: An unoccupied yacht anchored in Le Marin, Martinique, was burglarized for the second time (see prior incident 2835) while the owner was away. The minder discovered that a locked hatch had been compromised. The burglar came well prepared with tools and removed a refrigeration compressor, an installed halyard and additional sheets, blocks and pulleys, a 20kg Rocna anchor, coffee machine, flashlights and snorkeling gear. The minder moved aboard the boat, there were no further problems.|| The victim did not make a second police report.

Incident Details: A cruiser cable locked their center console dinghy/ 20HP outboard at the main Ft. de France dinghy dock to check in. Four(4) men sat on a bench opposite the dock. When he returned 90 minutes later at about noon, the men and the dinghy were gone.|| The victim contacted police and using information from installed cell based tracking devices they all went to a nearby location and found the dinghy and 2 of the 4 men on a commercial day boat attempting to leave the area. It was clear they had attempted to remove the engine, which was well locked to the dinghy. ||The 2 men were taken into custody and a formal report was filed. The dinghy was returned to its owner. No forensics were collected. Two days later the police contacted the victim and indicated that judicial officials were not going to proceed with prosecution, and the 2 men had been released. No further explanation was provided.

Incident Details: A yacht owner returned to his locked dinghy at the Leader Price dock and found that the fuel tank had been stolen. The tank was not locked to the dinghy and the thief cut the line despite the quick connect fitting. There was no other damage to the dinghy and no police report was made.

Incident Details: A locked yacht on a mooring between Club Med and the marina was burgled during a 10 day period. The minder discovered that thieves had broken in thru a hatch and then removed ceiling panels to access and unbolt 3 Lewmar winches. The well prepared thieves also stole blocks and sheets from the topsides. A 6HP- 4S Suzuki outboard engine locked to its rail mount was also stolen. A police report is in process.
