2573 – Theft in United States Virgin Islands (US) – St. Thomas – Red Hook anchorage

Incident Details: Owners returned to their yacht and discovered that during the period of Jan 9 through Jan 19, 2021, a thief had boarded their yacht and stolen the chartplotter from the cockpit helm. The chart plotter was mounted to the fiberglass of the helm. The thief removed the trim and eight securing screws, unplugged and removed the unit. No damage was done to remove the unit. No other equipment was taken. || A police report was made, and forensics collected.

Incident Details: CSSN Preliminary report : Yacht at anchor in Lindbergh Bay was stolen night of 4/26/2020. Police, USCG and Customs Border Patrol were notified. The yacht was apparently taken for a "joy ride" to nearby St. John, then returned and abandoned all sails up on the rock jetty In Frenchtown, St. Thomas. A good Samaritan noticed the yacht and a salvage company removed it safely from the rocks, with what appeared to be cosmetic damage, and the theft of some contents.

Incident Details: A catamaran was stolen from its slip at Green Cay Marina, St. Croix. The owners discovered the yacht missing during a routine visit and alerted authorities. ||The yacht was recovered later that night while underway by US Customs and Border Patrol and taken to the Customs dock in St. Thomas. The thief was taken into custody by the Virgin Islands Police Department. ||On return to their yacht the owners found that to gain access to the locked yacht the thief had used a crowbar to smash the glass out of the (locked) sliding door.

Incident Details: A yacht anchored close to the shore with a light onshore breeze noticed their in-the-water and not locked dinghy was missing around 2100 HRS. A search was conducted and the dinghy was not located. A police report was made the next day. Days later the dinghy was found adrift off Puerto Rico, and the engine was still present. The captain believes the dinghy was used for a joyride or other purpose and will retrieve the dinghy from PR.

Incident Details: Owners returned to their dinghy that had been chain locked to the Fredriksted pier from 1300-1500HRS. It was apparent that attempts had been made to defeat the chain, and start the engine, an oar was broken, and the stern anchor pulled. Several dive boats that were also using this dock were questioned but had no information. A police report was made, and VIPC indicated that there had been other issues at this dock and that patrols there would be increased.

Incident Details: An occupied catamaran was docked at the Christiansted boardwalk public pier. At 0230 HRS the owners were awakened and discovered a man had boarded and entered the yacht through the unlocked saloon door. He had rifled purses and wallets and taken cash, as well as some tools. When confronted he dropped the tools and quickly departed. The owners remained on watch and the thief returned 3 more times between 0230 and 0400, in each case he fled after being confronted.

Incident Details: A dinghy locked to the Coral Bay dinghy dock was stolen sometime on the 22 or 23 of April, 2019. The dinghy was tied and cable locked to the dock and the cable was cut. The dinghy was found 3 days later, damaged, minus the new Yamaha 2 stroke and other contents. A police report was made. ||CSSN NOTE: Two other dinghies were stolen in the same timeframe from this dock, but details are incompete. Incident Details: The nearby yacht’s 3meter dinghy with a Yamaha 4S 6HP outboard was stolen from the Dinghy’s Beach Bar in Honeymoon Bay between 7-10PM. It was not locked, and a thorough search of the area was made.
